I don't quite remember when was the last time BN had named a presently serving YB to stand for another election.
Its always something new during the time of Pak Lah. Maznah Mazlan, a YB in the Pahang State Legislative Assembly and an EXCO was made a Senator and thereafter a Deputy Minister. Well, there is no law against it though!
When the DPM made the annoucement, I was looking at the face and body language of Abdul Jalil, the UMNO head of Permatang Pauh. Many people thought it was supposed to be him.
In the event Anwar disabitkan bersalah dan dipenjarakan semula (tiada sebatan kerana melebihi umur 50 tahun), kerusi Permatang Pauh akan kosong semula.
Well, members of the Pakatan Rakyat can't complain on that. So many of them are enjoying more than one allowances! Shut up!
I was told, 68.5% of the voters are Malays i.e 40,038 voters. 24.8% Chinese (14,490 voters) and 6.3% Indians (3,680 voters). During the 12th GE, BN got 16,950 voters and PKR got 30,348 votes i.e a majority of 13,398 votes to PKR.
I was also told, there are about 18,000 UMNO members in Permatang Pauh. Not all voted for BN in the the 12th GE, obviously. Maybe there prefer Azizah over an Ustaz (Modern) Firdaus. Now that it is Arif, with a tint of Mamak blood and a long time UMNO member will be able to get UMNO members to vote for him. Surely he should get more than 16,000 of the UMNO members if not all. (Some UMNO members might not be voters at all).
Arif speaks Mandarin and surely more Chinese will vote for him. If he can get 8,000 out of the 14,490 Chinese votes, he can win already! With the Mamak in Arif, surely that will get him some of the Indian voters. If he can get 2000 Indian votes, Anwar will be in trouble!
See the logic in choosing Arif Shah? He is of Indian origin declared a Malay with arabic name and speaks Mandarin! A true Malaysian! Good luck Arif!!! Watch your back!!!!
